Kevin

This week has been really difficult.  Strange and bittersweet.  The day immediately following the last blog post, my good friend Kevin passed away at some point in the night.  I wrote about him briefly in an earlier blog post, he was the friend of mine who I asked "why are you in a wheelchair?" (post from July).  I miss him greatly and wish there was more time to hang out.  Tons of questions were raised in my mind and some anger at some point.  The community here has been amazing...that is something positive.

I wanted to take a quick moment to share his blog posts for you to read.  They give a glimpse into his heart and chronicle some of his struggles.  It has been one of the biggest blessings to call him friend and to have meals and conversations together over this past year.  I would encourage you to take time out to read the four posts he did over the past two years.  Here is the link:

Living With Amy - Kevin

Today I am working on school work, have fallen a bit behind.  I will be traveling home for Christmas and am excited to see how Aubrey has grown!  Yesterday we went to a retreat for church,  was so good to be away from Fuller for a day and to reflect on all that is happening.  It strengthened my faith and re-focused my mind on all that must be done before Christmas this year.  Sometimes we need that time away to re-charge.

Here is a song that was blasting in my bedroom this morning, felt like a good singer when I couldn't hear my voice singing along.

Tired but happy - the long lost update

It is homework time, approximately 12:00 at night and I am sitting in the living room of a friends house where we all are typing away on our laptops.  They think I'm being studious, but my brain doesn't want to study tonight.  If I"m being honest, most nights studying can be an issue.  I've started to wake up really early instead and start my day at a coffee shop instead.  I often ponder if this is a result of old age, nearing 27, cant you believe it!?  (If you are old (er) than 27, i apologize for calling you old - it's a compliment - age = wisdom)  This randomly reminded me, my mother tried to search my head for grey hairs while home this past summer and I am happy to report that none were found!  I've spent some time examining my classmates' grey hairs, and  at such young ages; some friends and I have anonymously concluded that graduate school breeds grey hair hair and speeds up the aging process.
Bags...? maybe soon!

Bonfire at the beach last night
Yesterday was a wonderful day where for the first time in a long time, I was able to just relax and hang out with friends.  It was one of my best friend's birthday and we celebrated from 12 a.m. until 12 a.m. the next day.  Claudia is a beautiful woman who has come from Panama to study at Fuller, and she is someone that I spend most days with.  She has the most beautiful heart and is the most thoughtful individual I have ever met: always interested in the details of her friend's life and always ready to extend a hug even if she is the one in need.  Naturally, her friend's wanted to let her know just how special she is so we planned multiple surprises and ended the day with a bonfire at the ocean.  This time at Fuller has taught me so much about community and how much it enriches our lives.

I am learning through the example of friends that any work God completes in and through me is not just for my benefit, but is for the community - it is meant to be shared with others.  All the joy, all of the love, all of the trials, all of the blessings and gifts that are passed on to me, are meant to be used with and for others all for the glory of God.  This pequenito light of mine, when combined with the light of others, is unstoppable.  The encouragement I've received from friends and family over this last year and half of studies is such a gift and without a doubt will be used for good.  Thank you.

Ok - So here it goes.  I've decided to update this blog with pictures.  Much has happened since the last post - including a trip home, trip to Mexico, trip to Vegas, and....literally hundreds of pages of writing and over a thousand pages in reading.  Add in two part time jobs and new students at Fuller to meet and you've got a snapshot of this stage in my life.  I've never been so tired, yet so happy at the same time.    Oh, next blog I"ll have to share a story about making a co-worker puke in the pool, we were having too much fun splashing....

Without further to do - Here is what it is like to live in my shoes...somewhat.
